Well I would agree that was a very bad post. Although I think it's also a minority and extreme view and not one I see repeated enough that it creates any sort of silencing or oppressive atmostphere.
I don't think they tend to be authoritarians -- indeed they are mostly the exact opposite and if anything err on the libertarian side. They do tend to be right wing, conservative types though albeit without the baggage of the modern GOP and Conservative parties.
