Turntable covers

Anyone got any recommendations for a nicely made and finished lift-off perspex cover/display case type thing to protect and cat-proof a TD-124:

Internal dimensions would need to be 44x39x21cm or thereabouts.

Warning!
Get some thin corrugated card from some kind of carton and make a lid from that which looks right (as far as possible in opaque card), and fits and clears everything.

Unfortunately, with radiused corners, a moulded lid is near certainly going to look best, but that would be way, way expensive.

I've found a potential contender here (eBay). They'll make to my dimensions so I could get a decent looking fit, plus have handle and cable cut-outs. I'll need to measure accurately as the SME overhangs at the back a bit, though I don't want to go so tight it I'd risk marking the plinth getting it on and off so a good couple of cm clearance needed.

I had mine made to my spec's locally at an acrylics company. 5mm thick/glued and very big (to cover a Dais) for £75 a 5 years ago. Preferred the personal touch as things can go wrong. For a 124 I'd suggest 3mm Perspex with side slots + rear cut-out to suit.

My advice is to give plenty of clearance on all sides, including the cut outs. You'd be surprised how easy it is to catch a corner, cable or counterweight.

Find a local signmaker. They specialise in making perspex boxes that can later be illuminated, printed, etc. A record deck cover, any size, any shape, is their thing, at modest cost. It's only a sign with a side missing, after all.

Tony,
I had my td124 made by The Frazier Company and as stated above, they are very very good, if a little expensive. I think I paid about £125 but I paid extra for a green tinted finish to match my slate plinth. There's a photo of it somewhere on here I think, otherwise I can email a picture of it to you to give you an idea of its quality/finish.

Cheers....Dave

Thanks Dave, any chance of linking a pic or two into the thread then others can see it too? The one pictured on the Frazer site looks really good with nice rounded joints. I'm not too bothered about the price and will pay for quality gains.

They look like a bargain and I rather like the idea it can be flat-packed. Is the build quality good, i.e. fairly sturdy once assembled?

Yes, very sturdy once put together. I found it very easy to assemble but some complained the little nuts and bolts are fiddly.

My only complaint was it could do with some hand holes cut in the side as the perspex got a bit smudged on the sides from lifting it off.

Personally the price quelled all complaints, the one for the WT was only around £40

Hi Tony,
I've never been able to master the photo thing, very sorry but pm me your email and I'll get a few over, showing how it looks on 3 different plinths.

Cheers...Dave

I had a mine done in a light green tint, but then found all the edges were a much darker shade. Others like it but I wasn't too sure........

Pretty sure I'd just go with clear. I toyed with smoked for a vintage look, but I don't think it would look quite right. The deck doesn't get any direct sunlight so the paintwork, mat etc isn't at risk.

For a small additional charge Sora cut hand holes in my WT cover, very study if a little industrial looking with the small bolts but very pleased with the price and quality.
