Superfi gone

I was in there on Monday beginning the negotiations for some shop damaged speakers. Guess I won't be getting them.

wow I bought my Audiolab 8000m's there . sad day was a good place to buy gear

I wonder what will become of their stock as the reprt said all stock had been moved to a central depot

From two other websites....Retail Gazette and Lincolnshire Live

"The Financial Conduct Authority is also reportedly looking into the situation"

Crikey, another one bites the dust. Got a few things from the shop in Nottingham over the years. Denon DRM 500 tape deck, still have it (in the loft, too good to sell for the little money they fetch), and my trusty Sennheiser HD565's, still in regular use. They were a bargain at around £80 if I recall correctly.

be glad you didnt give up a deposit
It wasn't that sort of purchase. I wanted the speakers for the kitchen and/or to strip the drivers. They had two pairs of KEF R300s at half price, £500, but one of them had large chunks missing from an edge. I was trying to get this pair down to £300 which is the price of a pair of the coaxial drivers. So I expressed interest, banged on about the damage and the price being too high and was going to go back next week to see if he had gained some enthusiasm. Oh well.

seems like all the fixed points of my younger days now gone - Superfi, HMV, Tower, Virgin
You do need some kind of physical prescence to excite the senses? Amazon or downloading not a substitute

Its branches wide all over
Business move abroad to EU expecting hard Brexit, many many will loose jobs due to incompetent politicians

Yep... True. It doesn't help that rampant capitalism, extortionate property prices, business rates etc etc have made it so that unless you are selling something which customers will swim through vomit to come and buy, and then pay three times the going rate for said product, you probably can't afford to rent the premises and still turn a profit!

We need a new business model with not for profit motives from councils if town centres are to remain viable... otherwise no doubt our present high streets will all be blocks of multi dwelling flats for rent before long as this seems to be the most profitable current use for any building and capitalist low life put wonga before their own grannies life!

yes , our local one was in a line of shops where the lease had run out and i thought it was just that . very sad . been buying stuff from them for years

funnily enough there are some successful hi fi shops within a short distance of our local one , one of them employs a number of people and has a huge turnover , so maybe superfi needed to learn from them

I was surprised they were still going. The last one I went in was in leicester and it felt a little lo-fi next to hifi x
Shame though but things change and not all businesses do.
I think the high street will just consolidate into a fewer number over time until it reaches its natural level or consumers take a stance and pay more for local but unlikely.
I bet even Arkless buys his borscht in lidl :)

Always a shame to see specialist audio in headlong retreat from the onslaught of digital 'connectivity' and tiny boxes.

But, I bought a CDR from the Manchester store years ago and they tried to charge me twice for it. I went in a while ago looking for something.. can't recall what, but the saleperson clearly knew bugger all about hi-fi and kept trying to flog me something entirely unsuitable and totally removed from what I was looking for. Last shop I visited was the Nottm one. Just in passing. Stock was mostly tat and the staff there also clueless.
