My recollection is that Thorens belts tended to stretch noticeably - I'd guess that the new one is correct and that things just slid out of alignment over the years (I used to figure on a Thorens belt being good for about a year or two until it needed replacing).
Buy a USB cable (£5 or so), plug one end into your PC and the other into your DAC.
Install free software like Foobar2000 and EAC.
Spend the remaining £495 on refreshing beverages.
Also - especially when the CD is relatively rare, don't discount the possibility that your rip is OK, but AccurateRip contains value(s) from other people's poor rips.
My opinion (and that's all it is, no direct experience of this exact scenario) is that the basic essence of the sound is set by your starting point. You can make yourself a better/worse Gyrodeck by all manner of modification but the core of the sonics is going to be unchanged.
