Does the Dev Dac fit the MDAC case, or is it a case of breadboarding (ply dac ing
).
The DEVDAC is a "custom" design its not been designed to fit within the MDAC chassis - although a Miterdog Plywood case would work well
Does the MDAC 2 streamer, piggyback the Dev Dac board.
The Streamer PCB is designed to be located next to the DEVDAC PCB, although a longer ribbon cable could be used to place above the DAC Board if you wanted a narrow case style.
Does the MDAC Wall PSU power the Dev Dac, can those with Calex or other LPSU's adapt them for the Dev Dac.
The DEVDAc needs to be powered via a single rail 12V PSU - so one of your Calex's would work well.
What are the prices for the above ?
One of the purposes of the DEVDAC is to help finance MDAC2 production etc. as we need to purchase components in bulk ahead of production - our up front costs add up very quickly....
The MDAC Streamer PCB is GBP250 (+shipping)
The DEVDAC PCB is GBP300 (+shipping)
When purchased together as a per then GBP500 + (+shipping)
With the Dual ESS9038 Q2M's The DevDAC sounds better then the MDAC and supports DSD and HiRes formats but:-
1. Currently shipped without display - instead the DevDAC is controlled via Android / IOS App / Phone / Tablet / Browser / HDMI monitor + Keyboard. Later I Hope to offer a touch panel LCD that plugs into the streamer board. We could also offer a simple OLED front panel (for little extra cost) like we use on the Pro_Ject DAC.
2. No headphone output
3. Asides from the Streamer support - the DEVDAC has 1 optical and 1 SPDIF input
4. Shared USB with the streamer section, so you can connect your PC via USB but the USB port will be deselected when the streamer "input" is selected.
5. in the interest of low EMC "local" to the HiFi system, no onboard WiFi is included on the steamer PCB - a separate "recommended" USB dongle is required for WiFi (Wired Ethernet connection is recommend)
6. USB CD reply (via CDROM) will be offered later via a software update
7. We will offer a "discounted" price Streamer PCB for the DEVDAC when the MDAC2 streamer board is required for the MDAC2.
