Back in the days when I was more actively interested in audio I was firmly of the belief that the industry was fundamentally corrupt. Missions glossy adverts on the back cover of certain magazines went hand in hand with glowing reviews.

Reputable dealers looked upon certain products with such distain because the reviewed sound quality was so at odds with the reality.

One case in point is the Krell KSA50, an amp so vague and indistinct in the bass you’d think it was deliberately designed by someone who hated music.

I mention it because I’m seeing forum posts talking about said amplifier talking about ‘grip’ and ‘control’ , attributes I’d never associate with a krell.

How is it that I hear things so very differently?
