Your amp history...

Ha! I had the stereo tuner as well. All built into a long thin wooden enclosure with a changer-style turntable (Garrard maybe) on top.

Ha Ha! I'll see your Stereo Tuner and the long thin wooden box, and raise you the Scratch and Rumble filters!

My Garrard SP25 was in a separate plinth, though.:D

The best of the bunch:

Pioneer SX-828 receiver -- 1973 was a fine sounding receiver
GAS Son of Ampzilla -- 1978 a new ball game
Marantz 7C / 8C -- 1979 this set up was amazing with Quad ESL and later JR149s and was my first introduction to valves...quite an introduction!
Then 7 years of audio purgatory...

Then spit into "two" hobbies: auditioning golden age amps with Spendor 15ohm LS3/5a speakers:
Scott 222C integrated -- wonderful sounding, my first "golden age" amplifier, EL84 outputs
Scott 299B integrated -- equivalent to 222C and used EL84 outputs
Fisher 500C receiver -- probably the best receiver ever made -- 7591 outputs
Fisher X-100 (3) -- superb EL84 integrated
Fisher X-100 (1) -- earlier version with tube rectification...and when properly rebuilt was stunning...gave to my sister and listen each year when I visit
Bogen DB110G integrated monoblocks -- completely remarkable integrated amps from the mid-50's using 6V6GT outputs...and then I bought a second pair so that I could use the first pair of output transformers in:
AudioTropic Musical Machine -- modern, astonishingly musical amplifier -- see: http://www.audiotropic.net/Products/machine.html
A quality digital front end into the amp which drives Spendor 3/5s
a "background" system even my wife can accept...

The other hobby was a slow evolution as follows:
AMC 3030 integrated (hybred
AMC pre / amp combination
AMC pre / Cary 300B Stereo Amplifier (push pull), amp was incredibly good
Audible Illusions 2D / Cary 300B
Audible Illusions 2D / Cary 300B Single Ended monoblocks (classic)
Audible Illusions 2D / Wright 3.5 Single Ended monoblcoks (2a3 / better)
Tara Passage / Wright 3.5 SE monoblocks
Mick Maloney Syrah / SunAudio 300B PP monoblocks (this was mind blowing tube amplification and was the "end of the line" in terms of what was both very good and very frustrating about tube amplification)
Naim 112 / 150
Naim 200 / hi / 150
Naim 200 / APX2 / 250
Naim 200 / APX2 / 260z

Interesting thread to see the different pathways members have taken over the years.

Amps I've owned (all bought new):

Fountain 20 - 20. (NZ made valve amp)

Sansui AU555A (Early S/S amp with triple tone controls)

Yamaha CA800 (Switchable Class A, A/B)

Rait 30-30 (Mosfet S/S copy of Radford)

Rait 30-30 Mk II (Same, but more power)

Naim 72/Hi-Cap/180 (Classic Brit flat earth combo)

Sony TA-DA9000ES (Engineering tour de force; an integrated pure digital 7 channel amp - arguable variant of Tact Millennium in design/concept)

There's been other kit that was tried out/auditioned etc, but these are the ones that were bought new and stayed until worn out/replaced/updated, over roughly a 37 year period, so I'm not exactly an inveterate gear head/changer.

Regrets? Wish I never parted with the Rait MkII, or the Yamaha CA800 - both very special in their own way.

I doubt that I'll ever part with the ES Sony, even though it'll be 'updated' at some stage or other. It's just too special in build, engineering and sound to let go.

A Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year to All

Cyrus 2/PSX and A&R A60 entered my life: which both sounded dire until I recapped them. The Cyrus has power and grip and a few other desirable hi-fi qualities, but I find the A60 is superior when it comes to simply playing music.

Today I've been playing with a pair of Sony SA-VA10 active speakers that came with an old TV courtesy of a BIL.

I am frankly astounded at the sound coming from these ugly boxes. Jonboi, I think have an inkling of where you are coming from with your enthusiasm for your Sony amp.

1992 - now - Nad 3020

1992 - 1994 - Rotel R80 Power Amp

2000 - 2001 - Arcam Alpha 8 Intergrated

2000 - 2001 - Arcam Alpha 8 Power Amp

2003 - Now - Exposure Pre VII Dual (with Exposure VI PSU, then x2 VIs, then onto a XII PSU)

2004 - Now - Exposure Super VIII Power Amp

2005 - Now - Exposure Pre XI (with Exposure XII PSU, then a IX PSU)

2005 - Now - Exposure IV Dual Non - Reg

2008 - Now - Exposure Pre XIV (with Exposure IX PSU)

2008 - Now - Two months to go for my beloved XVIs to arrive and also a further IX PSU.

Although most equipment is Exposure. I still have a very special place for the Nad 3020. Built so well it has not required a service in anyway what so ever and still produces excellent sound quality and good comparison amp.

Marantz PM57 - bought in 1999
Denon AVR 1602 - not sure when I bought it 2002 maybe?
Naim Nait 5i - bought late 2007

Oh bloody hell.
In the last 12 months - in this order

Nad 3020i
Nad 3020b
Nad 3020a - still got (mint, in box)
Cambridge A500
Rega Brio
Yaqin Ms-6v6 Valve Amp - sold earlier today - got an offer I couldn't refuse :D
Cambridge Audio C500/2xP500

I regret not bi-wiring the Cambridge A500, but I'm glad it went to someone who appreciates it - Mart off here.
I regret selling the Rega Brio to Tony, since it was damaged in transit and I'm waiting to hear from Parcelforce (Ar**holeforce?) over the claim...
Past that? I've enjoyed the differences. the last set of amps arrived with a loose connect in one of the P500's, which took me a couple of hours to sort. I think they'll be staying a while longer, since they've tamed my Linns nicely (being able to control the treble - bonus!)

Now I've settled on amp and speakers, it's CD Player time (again) :p
