which HiFi companies make simple, good value products?

Do we really care. Let's be honest, most of us buy second hand older stuff because we can get it at a fraction of the price of new stuff. There is also a good little cottage industry of specialist repairers who can keep the stuff going. The old is as good as the new, so why not buy old ?

We are a small clique who communicates via the internet and there is enough second hand kit and music to keep us going for years.

For £1000.00 you can buy a Mu so and stream all you want, get any radio station in the world and it sounds good. Happy days from our perspective.

Simple inside or simple to use? Devialet Expert is extremely complicated inside, but absurdly easy to use. You don't have to touch it at all. From standby, send something to it from a laptop, tablet or phone and it will wake up and auto-detect the source. Good value? I paid for it by selling everything it replaced: 2x mono amps, DAC, pre-amp, streamer, phono amp.

Simplest inside: Hattor passive pre, dual mono.

I think you have confound most with some and who is "we/our"? You can only speak for yourself IMHO.


Rega for sure IMHO, I really like the Brio-R which is a bargain above all used. Hard to get more "music" with the right speaker for that price.

(used) Harbeth if you consider what sound (especially midrange) you get for the price compared to the rest of the market.

(used) Odeon Audio speakers (the two way speakers are affordable) the 3 way are highly priced but still a good value (the are outstanding IMHO).
