Warning: New rules for bikes on TGV trains in France

avole

The wise never post on Internet forums
Trains designated as TGV now only accept folding bikes without a protective bag.

Road bikes, vets etc must now be in fully protective bags, which must cover the underside of the bikes, wheels etc. Additionally they must be booked on that train and the fee paid. Note that this limits the number, since they are accepted in one carriage only.

TGVTERS accept bikes without the protective bag, on payment of a fee. These are the tgvs that have been replaced by the new. Also, you must book, and bikes are stored in the hold. As a general rule they have no upper deck.

There doesn't appear to be a problem with non- tgv older ter trains.

please feel free to correct the above. Bike clubs may already have publicised this, But some, such as myself, did not.

I can confirm that TER Occitane do not require a fee or reservation to use the (six, from memory) bike racks. Indeed, the train guards are so chilled, I get the sense they’d allow riders to stand with bikes if the racks are full rather than refuse entry as they’re required to.
