A Tony Wilson thread, interesting.
He comes across as a lot of a twat, and he knows it. However, I do think he had a solid belief in the Manchester bands and helped the whole thing along. I have a quiet admiration for the guy, he wasnt a Richard Branson type of twat, just over-verbose (as John Cooper Clarke used to say).

I actually used to like his serious shows, when he interviewed people, audience participation type shows, nothing to do with music. He was very good, but straight talking

Anthony H was a total knob - but I think he knew it. Will always love him for his championing of Joy Division and the Happy Mondays although I genuinely believe that half the time he didn't actually understand what either band was really about.
