Turntable Light

Some people don’t like to see others ripped off, it’s just a gooseneck light available cheaper elsewhere. It’s a bit like the seriously reader lights, hundreds of pounds for an 8 pound lightbulb.

If the light looked good it might be a good price but it’s not.

I don't see it as being ripped off. No one is forcing you to buy it. You know the price and have a free choice as to whether to buy it or not.

It makes zero sense to me but that's just my opinion. Many people would question, quite legitimately, whether the money I've spent on hi-fi is worth it. In absolute terms the answer is no but I'm happy to try and make a rational defence of it.

But when your defence is 'what the f*** has it got to do with you' I'd say your position is less strong ;0)

I've got that, works well.

I have the version of this that has a stand. I don’t mind it, but I find the light output very bright and a bit harsh. And as the bulb is part of the assembly, it can’t be changed.

I saw a gorgeous flexible neck chrome one at my local hifi dealer. I meant to ask what it was!

Probably in response to this -

How the flying feck do you get to the point where you feel you need to spend £100 to get a little light to change records?

I bought a cheap clip-on 3 colour, 5 intensity goose neck from Amazon. Not as pretty as that expensive one, but adequate for me. I now have 2, inc. one in the loft. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07WD7ZGXS/?tag=pinkfishmedia-21

poor old luxury scruff....it was such a good sales pitch too until the F word. Maybe influencer is not really right for you L S? Crashed and burned 5 posts into PFM.

Can't recall the make, however, decades ago, there was an accessory turntable light available that clipped onto the lower LH edge of a dustcover. I always thought it seemed a cool idea until I went to look at a used Rega Planar 2 that was listed in the local Pennysaver ads and found that the LH side of the dustcover had been scratched to hell by one of these. I would have bought the deck regardless, however, the thing had been fit with a Linn LV-V with the main pillar through the original R200 hole (211mm vs. 222mm mounting distances so no chance of achieving even ballpark overhang).

Why do you think I'm an influencer?

I have no affiliation to Yorkshire AV at all. I bought the lamp from them because it was the cheapest place to buy it. I previously had one that clamped onto the turntable lid, but having since changed to an LP12, I prefer to listen with the lid down.

I have an IKEA Kallax unit, but because I've covered it in acoustic damping material, I can't get a good, snug fit. So it's attached to my turntable shelf, but importantly, it needed to be 'long' enough to be folded away when not in use.

This light has a long stem and also is very bendy, yet rigid. I happened upon Fremer talking about it, investigated it, and the length of it suited my needs.

I've just bought an led light to go over my LP12. It has various colour temperatures and output levels. Was twenty odd quid. It lights up that corner of the room in a cool way and the truth is... My fifty odd year eyes now appear to let in less light than they did. Am I old so soon?

Not to long ago I was on the look out for a TT lamp. I picked up one of these below from a electrical store I popped into for work purposes. A box of them was sitting on the counter, thought that will do, so I had a cheek to add it to the order :D
Mine came in red. This stands on the rack next to the TT

Big Larry 2 sounds like a porn film sequel!

These Nebo lights are brilliant, excuse the pun. I picked up the first one in the same way, at the checkout in a hardware shop, but we've got loads of them now. Mostly the smaller ones though. Ideal for the car glove box, got one in my tool bag, got one in my turntable tool box. I actually have about six of them upstairs still in boxes as I saw someone selling them cheap on eBay and I have a torch fetish ;0)

I appreciate there is demand for a turntable light - but what benefit does it give over normal lights?

In my case it’s because I have little light in that corner and didn’t want a large bright lamp. I wanted a small localised source that would fit into the alcove
