Tone arm cable

Hi

Been trying to find an answer on line for this but got nowhere. If you are using a 5 pin din plug for a tonearm cable into the base of the tonearm (eg cardas) do you need 4 core or 2 core cables plus an earth? In either case it appears that the left + and - would go to the left phono and the right to the right. So does it matter if it is 4 or 2 core?

I'm about to embark on a DIY project, I'm planning a pair of single core Van Damme instrument cable, + an earth lead.

The cables single core + shield, so there'll be 5 cables in total.

FWIW, the cheap female din plugs fit the standard tonearm plug, they need a bit of care locating without a pin, but a cheap diy alternative.

Thanks for the info. You don't have any links to the cable and din you are using do you? I like the van damme cable an use it as an interconnect already.

So is 4 core plus earth better then. Not likely to use a balanced stage for the foreseeable- I really like my p75.

It need the lugs removing to allow it to be pushed fully in, but £1.50 vs £20+ for a cardas, its worth a fiddle :)
