I think that Portishead's version is kind of a light bow in direction to Peter Brötzmann
and a new interpretation for the 21st century.
Both are kind of disturbing and while Portishead offers some more obvious structure to hold on to,
there is a different kind of emotional distortion to it.
I did wonder in fact if the syth sound of the Portishead version could be a distilled sample from the original, it sounds a bit as if someone had made a smoothy from Brötzmann's version accumulated into single tones..
Anyways..
I like both better than the others, Brötzmann best if I had to pick..
