thumping switch on

hi,
Whilst modding my CD I've had to keep switching my system off.
I have always had a switch on thump from my ALW/Hood preamp but as it used to be on all the time it didn't matter.
The switch just breaks the live mains feed.
Is there a cap or something that I could place across the switch to cure the thump.

The simplest solution, if this is a temporary state of affairs, is to make sure you power up your preamp before your power amp, then the thump has nowhere to go

I've got a lamp off the same plug as my hi-fi.
I sometimes get a loud "crack!" when I switch it on.

Thanks for that. It is only temp until I've fished modding.
But I'm sure I have seen a cap across the switch for this purpose on electical gear.

It's a triangle with an extra flat line at the pointy end.

If I remember from infant school my triangle didn't have an extra flat line and had 3 pointy ends and a stick to bang it with.
