What are the running costs, and is the problem purely a cost thing or also a time and commitment issue?
Given the popularity there must be a solution that keeps the site running.

TVK is the product of a very particular and wonderful obsession. However, the usual rules do not apply.
We're less than three hours away from the end of what has been a deeply horrible year. If you're interested (you are ;-)), let's think about this in 2012.
