The Best Film Soundtrack Albums?

Minstrel SE

These go to eleven
Hi

I can start by recommending the truly superb 2001 A Space Odyssey.
A must listen, superbly recorded and I don't think there is a better soundtrack out there.

2) The Bladerunner Soundtrack which is a really great listen.

3) The Grizzly Man Soundtrack by Richard Thompson

4) On a lesser scale the Casino soundtrack which puts together some good original artist stuff on a double cd

Have you any others to recommend I should listen to?

Cheers. See this is a great forum and some very good suggestions are coming in! A great list for us all to check out.

Inception, if you like "that sort of thing", which you probably do if you like the Bladerunner one.

"Superfly" by Curtis Mayfield
"The Harder They Come" by Jimmy Cliff
"Purple Rain" by Prince

Scorcese's Goodfellas and Casino have wonderful backing music but not sure how they would stack up as soundtrack albums so I'm going with Bladerunner and Twin Peaks.

A few obvious ones

Roy Budd - Get Carter
Lalo Schifrin - Bullitt
Ry Cooder - Paris, Texas

"The Big Chill" and "Lawrence of Arabia" spring to mind. And "The Blues Brothers" and "Brief Encounter" (David Lean, like Lawrence).
