Yea, a multi tap autotransformer is used. I think it can be used to adjust the level of all the units, but usually only the HF1300 tweeter is adjusted.

I have seen / heard several interviews with Derek, and they always contain so much valuable information.
It's a pity more people don't listen to him, it would put an end to so many silly internet arguments.
We are very lucky that he is still actively designing loudspeakers.

Like you, I’ve seen various ones and he imparts his information in a unique way.
A mix of facts and underplayed humour.

He strikes me as very modest.
He helped me out in my early days of repairing LS3/5As
