The 2024 Formula One Season

There's tons of similar "quality" material on Youtube too.

Ain't that the truth. I also avoid most YouTube F1 comments sections, same on Autosport which is usually quite measured reporting, the comments attract the same DM mentality. I gave up on their forums as well as despite being well moderated still attract extraordinary posting.

There's always the next cab off the rank every season. It's just that apart from the odd Max or Lando many either don't get a chance or fail to shine in their limited FP1 outings.

Well... This is significant to us old hats who thinks that the 1966 movie 'Grand Prix' is the best ever racing movie:

I thought his name seem familiar.

Sadly I expect Paul to fade into sports car racing/touring cars rather than F1 despite the valiant effort to boost his performances by the narrator.

Interesting article on Jamie Chadwick, the best female driver of this generation (IMO). She dominated every W series but is now doing well in the Indy feeder series, winning the last race at Road America.

And Indycar doesn't have an unwritten rule against female drivers. She probably will turn up in Indycar. Still, when was the last time some one transfered from Indycar to F1? Hmmmmm.... Bourdais in 2008 (if we put Champcar under the Indycar banner)?

Danica Patrick actually won an Indycar race, and achieved some respectable positions at the Indy 500.

This discussion has happened before but I don't subscribe to a current hidden agenda against female drivers in F1. It would be an incredible story and strong sponsorship coup if there was a competitive female F1 driver. Trouble is to date none of them have been good enough. Mrs Wolff got closest in recently years and Jaimie is the current best (and better that Suzie in her prime as well) and is still not fast enough.

Indycar is probably the best choice open and as Danica proved, winnable. Danica gets a lot of grief from some quarters but she was a very good driver and properly fast. Not sure how Jamie would compare but I think she is good enough for Indycar

It's often said that the current crop of F1 cars are "too big" for Monaco.

What says the group to the proposition that Monaco be retained in the calendar, but they build 24 identical smaller cars specifically for that race, and use only those?

It is a massive amount of work and cost to build a one off car (that alone rules it out), that would almost certainly be worse than the current cars there as the aero would be a one off, whilst not being that much smaller due to safety regs, engine size, fuel tank size. etc.

And, that isn’t ‘Formula’ One. It’s one-make. Plenty of that available all year if that’s your thing. Indycar is pretty much that.

Jackie Stewart won at Monaco in 1966 in a 1.5 litre F1 car from the previous year - few of the manufacturers were ready for the 3L formula, and, from memory, only Brabham and Ferrari had 3L engines, the Cosworth DFV wouldn't come until the following year and BRM's H16 wasn't ready.

Change the regs to suit. Or use an existing smaller car design.

OR, here's a thought - make it a kart race.

Talking about 'to big for Monaco'...

Well, nitpicking, I think the BRM V8 in Jackie's car was 2 liter. It can be argued that nobody had a new purpose built for F1 3 liter engine during 1966. Ferraris was taken from sport car racing where it was 4 liter, Maserati's where something old from the 1950's, there where a Ford before Cosworth that came from Indy, even something strange called Serenissima used briefly by McLaren. The Repco was, famously, based on an Oldsmobile road car engine and had been baptized in the Tasman series. The 'clever idea' BRM H16 hardly new, either.

Anyway, if one had only been there!

Or just give up on trying to race and make it a time trial with a pitstop glass of prosecco every lap, fastest to 12 laps one car on track. Could have a hazards, water spraying the track at swimming pool, smoke machine at Tabac and gold confetti at Casino.

Drivers boost the cash cap of their team by scooping up high-value chips which have been scattered on the stretch past the the casino.

I'll stop now /S
