The 2020 Raspberry Pi Streaming Guide

It's 6 years since the first Pi guide information appeared on the Reference forum. I've been looking at some options to give my second system a streaming capability (to feed a Naim DAC V1) and the Pi seems to be a good option at reasonable cost; but I'm new to this particular bit of audio tech. So here is a new thread to provide some more recent information, mostly for those, like me, new to the world of Pi-based music streaming.

The most recent thread on the Audio forum is here: https://www.pinkfishmedia.net/forum/threads/pi-based-streamer.238731/page-11#post-3944213. I am leaving this thread open for additional suggestions but please NO traders or dealers; and I will remove anything I consider to be unsuitable for a commercially neutral advice thread.
