System pics 2014 part II

Oh and the rear end, it was trimmed to be equal to the fronts via the dangerous music stsr at seated position last month. The fronts still need to go up a small amount.

More to do but that's the gist

In the middle of bloody nowhere as well. Always what I dreamed of when I was younger. Can we come set our tent up outside? In fact, an audiophile campsite. There's a thing you don't see.

Main system in new house:
301/SME IV > Dino > Glasshouse TVC > Quad 306 > Tannoy Monitor Gold 15" in bespoke cabs.
Digital is MacMini > Lynx Hilo. Unfortunately, I have nowhere to hide the Mac or the HDD.

Glasshouse TVC > Lynx Hilo DAC/ADC which routes the analogue and digital inputs to a second system..

Lynx Hilo feeds a Meridian 203>Cyrus 1>Tannoy Monitor HPD 15" (in Lancaster cabs salvaged from the Golds) via a very long fibre optic. It shouldn't work but it does.

Finally, the all digital system in the flat.

MacbookPro >PreSonus Audiobox DAC > Tisbury Passive Pre > Quad 606 > ESL 63. HDD drives are clones of the main system so act as a double safety backup.

In theory I could ditch the Tisbury as the DAC has an analogue volume control, but the Presonus is USB powered so this way allows me to protect the speakers if I need to reboot the laptop.

I always liked the look of the 606. Ominous and monolithic. A perfect partner for Quads ESLs. Beautifully minimalist. No clutter. Awesome setup that probably did not rape your wallet.

Indeed. The 606 was 350 quid and in mint condition. The PreSonus cost about 120 quid. Add 135 for the inessential preamp, bolt an 8 year old laptop and 200 quids worth of HDDs on the end. Good to go. Sounds awesome and doesn't enrage the guy downstairs.

The speakers weren't cheap mind... although as an ATC owner, you may well disagree with that :) About 1200 quid including getting them re paneled by Quad, I think. I got a good couple of years out of them before the panels went too. Cheapness is relative I suppose, but I make that ~£2K + the retired laptop?

I've enjoyed following the system pics thread for a long time now and finally think it's time to put a couple of pictures of my system up following a recent Garrard 401 addition that I'm proud of. It's a small room but it's all to myself so perfect.

After finally having sold off a bit of stuff, I rather quickly ended up with a small & simple second system yet again, and enjoy it much more than I ever thought possible.
