SSD for laptop question

I've got some cast off drives in external enclosures. Some of these enclosures came with a piece of foam to stick in there if it was a 7mm drive.

I don't use a NAS as there is no need. Sneakernet is open to infection.

Well, if something infects the SSDs, etc, I use then it must have already got into my machines anyway.
