Spitz to close

Probably of no consequence to those outside London, but the Spitz in Spitalfields, one of my favourite, and nearest, music venues is almost certain to close in 6 months. This is because their Irish landlords, the Ballymore Property Group, have decided to turn it into a Gastropub.

The poncification of East London continues apace.

This is the sort of thing that makes a mild mannered person like myself want to put bricks through windows.

That's a pisser, it's a great venue. The heart has been ripped out of Spitalfields with the 'development' of the western half of the old market. A text-book example of how to completely kill an area with crap architecture and chain stores by the yard. Clueless.

Any idea if the Spitz people are trying elsewhere?

That's so crappy...heard the Palais and Astoria are closing too...neither are great imo, but still, bigger limitations on venues can't be a good thing...

Bah. One of my favourite venues in London. I was there last week. That really sucks.

apparently the chap who owns the astoria took an axe to the stage following the final gig there (by the good the bad and the queen i think) as a farewell kind of thing. hmmm.
