It was the Q that had the metal dome. A lovely little speaker, smaller than the K, but more expensive.
I can't recall whether the J/E woofer was a Vifa or Seas; I've owned both speakers, but a long time ago. Most likely Vifa, as they seemed to be favoured at that time. The M21WO-39-08 would have been suitable.
KV ditched the Tonegen tweeters and replaced them with Vifa's, and generally tweaked the designs, after Peter passed away.
Possibly it was a case of the KV redesigns being more accurate but less musical than the earlier versions.
