Slugs: How to get rid of them?

I have heard of this solution in the past but never followed up. Thanks for the link, as reading that ad. and the instructions it wouldn't be any use for a larger growing area like mine. Could be okay for greenhouses, but the shelf life and cost over a slug season would be prohibitive. That it takes days to have an effect is also a caveat.

Saw a small pack/container of what looked like upmarket slug pellets in Aldi today at just shy of a fiver. I read the label and nowhere did it caution against collateral damage to hedgehogs and birds. Naughty; not cheap either cf. a few years ago (according to memory, which is fallible).
