Well worth a BUMP!!!
Meanwhile, after two decades of SHELTER 501/2 ownership, we are really enjoying our new DENON DL-103R, which has proven a great match for our new WAND PLUS tonearm, on our “springless” LINN LP12 hot-rod.
We keep the SHELTER on the bleachers and take it out for special occasions.
The DENON and the SHELTER both have their strengths - and their own unique voices.
But the price of the DENON makes it the bargain of the century.
If the new SHELTER 501/3 and the big DENON 103R were the same price, which would I choose?
Assuming the SHELTER 501/3 sounds the same as the 501/2, it would be a very tough decision - but I would pick the SHELTER, knowing I would very much miss much of what the DENON does so well.
Ironically, my wife, with her younger ears, would pick the DENON without hesitation. For her, there is simply no contest!
