Seth Rogen sublimates Harvey Weinstein via climate change sensibility

i was forced to watch "long shot" (well, only the first third or less -- i could not take any more) and now i owe a massive apology to @Marky-Mark . i actually make quite an effort to keep up with american pop culture, but i've clearly fallen behind recently. in this "film", climate change ersatz meets massively sanitized, family-appropriate, unrealistic sexual fantasy (as only america can do) with all kinds of politically ambiguous naivete thrown into the mix, so as not to offend ticket-buyers from either party -- if you can imagine, it's actually not clear if we are dealing with a democratic or republican candidate/president.

quite obviously, the sensible non-species-centric solution to this is to bring in an appropriate predator to restore ecological balance and remove 81% or so of humans from the planet (that just happens to be the rotten tomatoes score).

Vuk,

I don’t know what movie you’re talking about but if it has jive-talkin’ robots my money is theirs.

I have no idea what the movie is about or how it's basis for an apology. Probably safe to assume it's an insult of some sort.

I’ve fixed the lazy sub-teenage sentence case of the thread title, but can someone please translate the random word-salad of the OP for me?

I'll give it a shot.

The OP was somehow 'forced' to watch the effort of a stupid American movie studio, who made a stupid American movie with climate change as a peripheral plot element. The movie featured lots of stupid Americans doing patently stupid American things with a thematic emphasis on not offending any stupid American political tribes. This culminated in the OP developing a fantasy that a murderous beast with a Darwin tee-shirt would kill 81% of said stupid Americans, leading to a happy ending for the OP and those of his ilk.

For jive talkin' robots can I recommend rewatching Passengers and Ex Machina.

There is nothing on at the cinema at the moment (unless someone can convince me that the reviews of the new tarantino are wrong)

As for the word salad...

joe.

i was in a "AV had enough" mood last night after having to endure that film. no jive talkin', but a 1st class jive turkey as the leading (girlie)man.

@Marky-Mark

can you please stop being paranoid? it was the total opposite of an attack.

Vuk,

I had to look up the movie, as I had no idea what you were talking about.

It's it fair to say that Long Shot is a long shot from Star Trek II or Star Trek IV?

the short answer is "romulans before romcoms", especially modern american romcoms.

a long answer (i can give a longer one, but would love for someone else to chip in first -- i find it hard to believe that, with all the crap people admit to watching here, nobody has seen this or been forced to by wife/girlfriend/partner/etc) ...

from the perspective of social and political values, the film is so atrocious, i would be inclined to show a tiny bit of sympathy to a fox viewer who believed it to be yet another example of george soros and his jewish hollywood buddies corrupting american culture: you actually have to do a fair bit of work simply to get past the prima facie case.

to conjure up an image that may explain my personal disgust, consider a relatively well-off, young american professional, who identifies with the "left", yet isn't at all comfortable with bernie sanders and has somehow become enamoured with the british monarchy over the past several years thanks to the likability and down-to-earth celebrity of its younger members such as kate and meghan. socialism definitely interferes with any downton abby aspirations, no matter how unrealistic and hypocritical --- but hey, why can't a person just fantasize?!

finally, i was really hoping someone would "get" my little weistein insinuation (i'm pretty sure i got the spelling right a post time and tony's title edit mangled things for commercial reasons), perhaps even get all worked up about it and accuse me of various things. very disappointed. sad. very sad. the forum is so sad these days/years.

I've never heard of the film, and only vaguely know of Seth Rogen (seeing the thread title, I thought he was some kind of political commentator). The last film I saw at the cinema was 'Gone Girl' in Dublin almost five years ago, so no surprise maybe.

What is this all about? What film is Vuk talking about? All I understand is that "American Culture" is stupid and rotten because it has been corrupted by Weinstein, George Soros and his Jewish Hollywood buddies. And that the American "liberal left" is not good enough because it does not support Bernie Sanders. I would agree that American "crap culture" is terrible, but so is British "crap culture" (Daily Mail?) and Italian "crap culture." I'm sure in all cases there is a Jewish plot to corrupt and weaken the otherwise noble, intelligent, honest, native culture and to adulterate the race by seducing its women.

sorry. completely beyond me.
oh look! I too can do trendy subversive no-caps posts.

I only altered the case of four letters, the spelling is all yours. Other than that I have no idea what you are on about as I’ve never even heard of the movie. Lazy non-capitalised phone txt speak just isn’t a good look for the forum IMO, it just looks ugly in the thread list.

I've got it. It's one of those Burroughs style cutout things. You're munching through the standard greenstuff, then boom, there's a pepper or an olive. When it works.

If you Google Seth Rogen it all becomes clear. He is an actor in a film called "Long Shot." Which, I get the impression, Vuk did not like very much, and sees as an obscene degradation of American culture. (I expect I would agree with him if I saw it.)

Seth Rogen is an anagram of 'Thong-seer'. Just saying,
