I stumbled upon this website and thought it might be of interest to those wanting better insight to the many jazz recordings Rudy Van Gelder was involved with. Use the back and next buttons to navigate.

The linked page discusses the use of reverb created by a device made by EMT called the Model 140. Apparently the one he had was unique one-off.

Interesting to read about his selection of microphones, their close placement and the home the recordings took place.

I’ve been listening to some original pressings of Prestige recordings this morning and definitely hearing the reverb. Makes me wonder if this reverb is less heard on later pressings or reissues…
