RIP Alan Whicker

My parents told me a story about him when they lived in Lagos (Nigeria) and he was doing his series on the most corrupt capitals in the world. Lagos came top by a long way when they found the local officials wouldn't even let them get their camera kit through customs or film without bribing every man and his dog first. He had a difficult time trying to find any of the expats to go on camera as well due to repurcussions. My parents were members of the yacht club and my dad took him out on his boat and then they got him hammered in the bar (a few times) my dad said he was highly entertaining and had lots of funny stories about the rich and famous and kept everyone entertained.
