don't have strong opinions about the list, but as I read it I noticed that I kept thinking of better songs for each band that i knew well.

not necessarily because the riffs were better - tho in part thats because thats probably not what i listen to in guitar based music...hmm not sure. Maybe i need to pay more attention

What nonsense some of it was, only listened in the car for a while but Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi, Money by PF, Loser, Franz Ferdinand, they aren't guitar riffs.

Is my understanding of the "riff" wrong?

I don't think these are riffs:

Sweet Child O' Mine
Guns N’ Roses

Layla
Derek and the Dominos

Ziggy Stardust
David Bowie

Sweet Home Alabama
Lynyrd Skynyrd

Great riffs are these:

Whole Lotta Love
Led Zeppelin

Smoke On The Water
Deep Purple

You Really Got Me
The Kinks

Smells Like Teen Spirit
Nirvana

Sunshine Of Your Love
Cream

But truly the greatest riff of them all is missing on that list:

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (or Tommy James & The Shondells if you wish) - Crimson and Clover

Over and over :)

no Alternative ulster - slf, holiday in Cambodia - dead kennedys or Dr Dr by ufo, great riffs there, and many more not on the bbc's radio friendly list.

Amazing that no homage whatever is paid to these:

And one of my all time faves is this from 1:15

And this. From a 'pop' group.. from 1:48

Many more.... How long have you got? :)
