Quad II power amps

A properly refurbed 303 sounds very similar to QII, but have much better bass and oompf.
You would hope so, given that this was Quad's foray into the new transistor technology and that they would be trying to sell to e QII owners as an upgrade. They wouldn't have got far if the 303 hadn't been at least as good.

I’ve got refurbed examples of the Quad 3O3 and Quad II monos (with original valves) and they sound quite different via my Klipsch Cornwalls. I always liked the 3O3 via my LS3/5a but it sounds noticeably less smooth and slightly stark with the Klipsch compared with the Quad IIs.

I chose to keep the Quad IIs over the 303, both refurbed. My experience is that the valve amps have better quality bass than the 303, which I found to be insufficient in that area. Having lived with both for a long time, I'm not sure I can agree that the 303 was a step up overall. Different, yes.
