Problem with Garrard 401

Hi,
Hope someone can help me with a problem. I have tested a 401 but only get sound from the left hand channel. Swopping phono leads over confirms that the right hand channel is missing.
Will this be the cartridge?
Also how do you get the platter off to check serial number.I didn't want to force it. It is a flush mounted strobe type in a floating plinth with 4 screws/springs in the corner.

Hi JP. To remove the platter just give it a quick vertical tug. If this does not work, get a second helper to lift the platter while you give the spindle a light tap on its end, vertically. This should do the trick.
With regard to the channel out, it could be the cartridge or the arm wiring. Check continuity of wiring with a multi meter. If this is ok, then assume cartridge is faulty.
