TBH If I was going to do it 'digitally' I'd write my own DSP plugin for a computer player. That way I could check it for any problems. But given that in the past things like the 'Cello' were possible, and some kit had flexible controls, I think analogue should be possible. Just a shame if no-one can be bothered to make them commercially.

I use a Marantz EQ551 equaliser, very usefull unit 10 band, built in spectrum analyser and pink noise generator/mic. And very quiet, with no hiss (once a little shielding is added)
