Photo editing on a Mac on the cheap.

Alex - Aperture would be fine - if you can put more RAM in then do it and also set Aperture up so that it does not create Previews.

Aperture will run fine, however it is slow compared to other apps out there, just the nature of what its doing I am afraid. Also all the options for organising get a bit confusing.

I've been playing with Picasa the last couple of days, and it seems to do more-or-less what I want. Basic controls, but crop and resize is easy, as is a bit of sharpening etc.

UFRaw seems good for proper RAW processing, although Picasa will do RAW files too.

I must say that off the cuff picasa for mac seems very good. I am not really into the organising my own folders thing, but if I were picasa would seem to be the logical choice.

I have not established if editing is non destructive though?
