A friend of mine is considering buying a Bluesound Power Node and connecting a phono stage via the 3,5mm jack. Is this a good option? Does the lack of RCAs limit the sound quality?
No, that method works fine. The limitations are ultimately in the quality of the amp rather than the lack of RCA inputs & having to use 3.5mm instead.
As long as you’re not using a really high end turntable & expecting miracles, it’ll be fine.
Something along the lines of a £1k turntable cart & phonostage combo into a powernode will be great.
