over heating Arcam Alpha 5 CD...

Have you tried resoldering the dac and regulator pins? also check I/v conversion op-amps z1/101 and SAA7220 filter are they getting very hot? you may also have a bad capacitor somewhere .
I think the cap C415 is in the muting circuit, have you measured the 1N4*** diodes in this circuit?
 
I'ts worth resoldering most of the main components anyway (chips,transistors IC and main pcb connector sockets) you cant always see bad joints
