Old vs new bikes

That Raleigh will have a very narrow gear spread which will need lots of double shifting on normal roads. At least the MTB craze gave us wide gear ranges. I have no interest in preserving the bad features of old bikes, just in using whatever works well.

I love old bikes and have a rebuilt Moulton F frame. The build cost much more than the bike is worth and its not a restoration so won't make the purists happy but, it rides far better than the original bike ever did. Its had a total strip and rebuild, new paint, suspension, NOS Sturmey archer four speed, American classic front hub, sun alloy rims, Sugino crank set with 60T chainring, fast rolling primo comet tyres and the list goes on..
