As a one off, try the Marian McPartland Trio 'Live at Shanghai Jazz'. This was recommended by Dave Gelly in the Observers music review a few years ago and hasn't disappointed. A classic piano trio setting with exemplary playing by Joe Morello on drums & Rufus Reid on bass. Available on Concord Jazz CCD-4991-2, the good sound for a live venue is an added bonus.

IMO try the wonderful Bill Evans. Probably one of the most underated jazz pianists ever. Try the live recordings 'Bill Evans Trio- Sunday at the Village Vanguard' (Riverside 9376) or my particular favourite 'Waltz for Debby' (Riverside 9399) again by the Bill Evans Trio. This guy was the underated thread on the Miles Davis classic 'Kind of Blue'. Get them on vinyl- They will knock your socks off!!!!! So Cool you will be ready to sink the Titanic!!!

Any recomendations ?
Something cool, relaxing ambient style jazz.
Phil

Try Piano in the Foreground by Duke Ellington. It's Duke in 'small-band' mode, and as per usual it's exquisite.

As a side benefit, the recording engineer was on top form too.
