Wow, not sure how I missed this post, sorry for not answering Toms post, and will try to pick things back up a bit here.
Bhazen, I have owned my Model 4's for almost 3 years now, and I am still extremely happy with them. They just work in my room so very well and with my current Naim electronics that I really have no reason to look for anything else.
My main room size is about 16.5 feet wide by 15 feet deep, 8 foot ceilings. This room though is fairly open concept to kitchen and dining area, so a decent amount of space. The Larsens fill this space very well with no strain, just good music.
While they do certainly have a different perspective than front firing monkey coffins, I find them more like live music, very open, great sound staging and depth if that is important to you. I also enjoy this staging from almost anywhere you sit, no head in vise applies here to get the same detail or staging.
These speakers in my room do bass down to the mid 30's, very solid and roll off smoothly. the treble range is very detailed without the hard edge or etched sound that a lot of front firing monitor type speakers have. I find the Larsen just very natural all around.
Not much I don't like about these, they may not have the absolute finest veneering/cabinetry, but very good for the price asked. I think the veneering gets a bit better as you go up the model chain though. Other than that, it is a nice MDF cabinet with good quality drivers and crossover components, put together very nicely. The Model 4 is a real price buster in my mind, while a small speaker, it plays much bigger than one would think.
I have not heard the Model 6 or 8, so have no opinion on them or how they might be better etc. What I do have though is some comparison to my Shahinian Obelisk2's, and this is going to be a bit of a tough comparison really. For the money, and in my room and with the Naim electronics, the Larsen works better, and sounds every bit as good as the Obs do for the most part. It gives up some treble detail, and front to back depth or layering if you will of instruments, and probably a bit of bass/fullness, but I find the Larsen just really easier to live with-in my situation that is.
With the Obelisks and Plinius integrated, the Obs are obviously the better speaker, with those added details I gave above that the Larsen doesn't do, or do as well. The Obelisk is the better speaker, and based on price, it should be. But as I put it in response to a couple other forums, I feel like you have to be prepared when buying Obelisks, they kind of own you, not the other way around, and be prepared to give adequate amplification and sources to ensure you are getting the most of them, and generally, the feeding and care of the Obs isn't cheap. But it is rewarding.
The Larsens on the other hand, do not need expensive, powerful amps etc. to sound really good. Yes on the end of my Plinius integrated, the Larsen really can be transformed a bit more, it gives more in the bass end kick, but the overall presentation I typically like better with the Naim. Give and take.
What for me makes it interesting, is that when I have been listening to the Obs/Plinius combo for a long time, and then go back to the Larsens, it doesn't disappoint me in any way shape or form, or want to immediately put the Obs back in. They both make great music and that is what it is all about to me.
So, all this is just my take. Not worth much really, interested parties must listen for themselves and decide what is good in your system. Hope this may help some. Tim
