Naim unitiservs SSD + NAS

Hi All,

Can anyone advise me on how to set up NAS storage connectivity with the Naim unitiserve

Any recommendations of NAS storage devices currently available to cover 2TB of music storage

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

I use a QNAP TS 251+ with 1x 8GB Samsung RAM module and 2x Sandisk Ultra II 1TB SSDs

I can probably help you with this, but the guys at Naim support are really good at it and will be able to sort it for you. If you can't manage to follow their instructions, they can also do a remote login and actually set it up for you. Get on the phone to Naim support, you'll probably get to talk to Phil Harris.

Regarding choice of NAS, a Synology, QNAP or Netgear Readynas, all with Western Digital Red drives would be my choice. They are all pretty well tried and tested. An SSD drive might be quieter than HDD, although the noise from my Synology is mainly from the fan, not the drive. Not too much of a problem if you can keep the thing away from the listening room.

My NAS is in the same room, has a fan yet is silent from 20cm away

I have a Synology that was set, by default, to run the fan constantly. It's not in a warm location, and once I'd figured this out, setting it to come on only when required means that it's silent nearly all of the time.

Same, I have the fan set to 'smart' so it can decide the speed as and when required
