nac 102

Have you asked Les at Avondale about fitting his boards in for you? I know it's been suggested that he doesn't mod these anymore and that he's snowed under anyway bit maybe worth an ask.
Because it's invasive and would mean doing a similar thing to what yairf did on his NAC112 (see the thread I linked to for pics), it'd be better to get it done by one of the Naim specialists so that you don't automatically kill resale value.
ClassA or Witchhat?

If it's just the remote function then the RSL boards will do that with your 72.
Alternatively, get that cheap 112 and try yourself on that as nobody will apparently care if you junk it (you wouldn't).
I'd be too scared to work on someone else's stuff as my soldering is fine but I've had lifted pads before and would hate to hand back something and them lot be happy with it. Mates don't count, anything is an improvement on their Mr Blobby soldering.

I often wonder about the 82, because it would be a good option for me too, but how big is the gulf between the 52 & the 82?

Witch Hat can modify an 82 with their Superlink mods so it can use 10 power rails of a Supercap instead of 4 and take it closer to the 52.

Yes, I believe they can do the same for the 102 as well. The problem is though, as I have said elsewhere, their communications are poor, especially regarding answering emails.

yeah but looking more into it I only use 2 inputs CD and a Dac, the streamer , tv etc connects to the dac.

as not using phono or any other inputs a large multiple rail amp is kind of a waste.

A stripped out 72 or 32.5 would in effect only have 4 rails? Using the RSL cards would allow remote control again

the ultimate expression of this is the Grad1 or 821+ but not remote possible according to Les.

The 82 can only use 4 rails unless superlink added the costs spiral as a supercap needed.

Also a smaller case is more rack friendly

I can't speak to the Superlink mods, but I can say that the NAC52 is miles ahead of the NAC82 powered by a regular Super-Cap. However, I dumped my NAC52 and Super-Cap like hot potatoes as soon as I tried plugging my Benchmark DAC2 directly into my power amps. You might want to consider going that route instead. I'm not sure which DAC you have, but the Benchmark has a volume knob and two analog inputs that bypass the digital side of things:
