any help on what this is.

I think it is a beautiful piece of woodwork, maybe 1940 - 1960? Gorgeous! How big is it? Obviously a woofer in the bottom and a horn on top, but apart from that no idea. The vintage Brit experts will surely know.
 
Do you have the opportunity to pop the back off and have a look inside? It looks suspiciously like some Vitavox speakers of that era, e.g. the Bitone 6201 (link, scroll down a bit), which is probably no bad thing.
 
Thanks for the info so far i will be getting this later this week so i will then be able to take the back of and find out
 
It looks exactly like the one on Tony's link. The wood joints are in exactly the same direction, and both have 11 slats on the lower front. Beautiful design! But that's probably because it was designed by an engineer and not by a "designer."
 
Looks like a Vitavox BiTone. (Oops sorry, missed Tony's Link)

Quite valuable. Should have a GP1 behind that 550Hz midhorn.
