what a great album we been having a van morrison weekend

We were looking up who played bass on The moondance album and others

some sad news about the player is here

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f28/john-klingberg-389174/

As we said we love Moondance for the horn based songs

our Favourite three Van Morrison songs is a toss up between

Redwood Tree c/w st Dominic's preview

Starting all over again C/w Enlightenment

Before The world was made c/w To long in exile

when Van starts singing about god and record business takes a nose dive with us we find we have to work around all that stuff to find what we like. Like it we do.

Can't see past the album Astral Weeks which still sounds astonishingly good.

There is a boldness to the conception that a wee Irish pop/blues singer can work with a legendary band of jazz musicians which hasn't been seen too many times in pop music. The sponteneity of the recording shows it wasnt all worked out beforehand and risks were taken that he hasn't done since.

Also the fact that the lyrics are often just random thoughts with little narrative meaning only makes it even more wonderful. Some phrases have just stuck with me eg "six bell chime" for almost 40 years.
