There's an interesting blog on the VPI Classic t/t - more so because everything else he has seems to be Linn!!
I don't know about the 140s but the smaller standmounts (109) I heard sounding superb at the Bristol show last year - on the end of a Naim system....
 
Does seem to me you made some odd decisions:

Speaker can move if pushed at top so you made some blutac contraption but it sounded worse but did not move!!! Why not junk blutac contraption and have better sound

'I have always made the right decision on electronics' - why then sell the LV because you are nervous of valve amp zapping someone. Surely buy a solidstate amp for the LV or even a fully enclosed valve amp if you must. Odd

Just my view though
