I don’t think any of the follow-on issues raised were directly related to bailing out the banks, although they could all have been handled much better by the governments since 2010.

The ZIRP environment and subsequent consequences were cast during the GFC. ‘Emergency’ IR’s we were told. Well, it’s been a bloody long emergency and created a whole generation who only know virtually free money. We’re too far down the road now.

Very bad Opinium Research poll here, Lab lead slips to 2% (Twitter). Don’t quite under how that is possible given the economic failure, total corruption, incompetence and racism of the Tory Party. By saying that racism does seem really popular in this country.

Seems unlikely. Got any credible info, e.g. a website, mission statement etc? I don’t pay Murdoch on principle.

War and flogging more arms is always popular.

It’s just the usual Judean Centrist Front stuff, most of these projects exist virtually, as a threat - they don’t make it as far as a mission statement. Still funny though.

In another spectacular example of Labour shitness the Tory Republican-style voter suppression Elections Bill has just got through the HoL as only 40% of Labour could even be arsed turning up (Twitter). Seriously, WTF is wrong with this party? This could have so easily have been blocked had Labour peers done their jobs.

That’s it done. The Tories can now rig elections by ensuring the poorest and most vulnerable in society no longer have access to vote without expense and inconvenience. An exact mirror of their Trump/Bannon mentors. Labour, as ever, finding a fence to sit on.

Didn't know this.
A shocking dereliction.
Just pisspoor.
They still draw salaries/attendance allowance as the opposition?

I actually feel sick. The Tories have just pulled a Trump/Republican vote-rigging scam and got away with it purely because Labour are such a sack of useless feckless shit they couldn’t even be bothered to turn up. It is hard to imagine a more constitutionally important thing than handing election control and regulation to Johnson’s bunch of Tea Party-clone criminals, yet Labour, and Labour alone, have done precisely that. Voting has now got way harder for students, poorer ethnic communities, the unemployed and many other less advantaged sections of our society. A very deliberate alt-right disenfranchisement strategy aided and abetted by the bloody Labour Party.

PS Anyone still think the LDs are to the right of Labour? Seriously?

It should be remembered that Chakrabarti is seen as Corbynite by the Labour Party for not finding enough anti-semitism in the Party in her 2016 report, and for calling for an investigation in islamaphobia in the Tory party. Wes Streeting objected to her being raised to the Lords on the grounds of bias!

The Blairites put war against non-Blairites above opposing the Tories. Labour is ideologically opposed to the left in a way that it is not ideologically opposed to the right. Labour do not oppose the right, they just want to replace them.

“We may only be a revising second chamber… but if not to defend the rule of law, what are we for?” Baroness Chakrabarti on today’s latest outing for #NationalityAndBordersBill in
@UKHouseofLords

Chakrabarti’s question applies as much to the Labour Party as the revising second chamber

Austerity ? benefit cuts ? student fees ? seriously ?

None were LD policy. A very minor party in a coalition doesn’t get to dictate terms, sadly. They did manage to raise millions of low earners out of taxation (something Labour had failed to do in three terms) and restrain the Tories at least to some degree (compare with the rank criminality that came later), but basic math is basic math. No minority can dictate policy. I still think they were wrong to go into coalition, but I can’t blame them for Tory policy. As is usual now Labour weren’t even in the game.

Regardless, that is all ancient history. There was no coalition last night. It was a free vote in the HoL that could so easily have prevented the Tories grabbing the type of far-right election rigging that has proved so effective at disenfranchising the poor and minority groups in the USA. The LDs stood blocked it. Labour didn’t. Yet another example of Labour not recognising fascism when it is staring them right in the face. With the borders bill that is two times in one night FFS. They are an utter disgrace. A gigantic shitberg blocking any logical discussion or anti-far-right dialogue in the UK. Corbyn’s Brexit farce all over again.
