Jasmine turntable motor - suitable for subplatter TT?

Hi, does anyone know if the Jasmine TM-R501 MKII external motor can be used to drive a subplatter TT?
I have only seen pictures of them driving the main platter, but with a rather large pulley. If the pulley is replaced with one of a smaller diameter, could it work? The turntable is an Avid DIVA, btw.

If the sub platter doesn’t physically sit lower than the platter, you’re going to struggle. Could you not just use it with a large belt to drive the main platter periphery?

Not sure why you’d want to bother, mind…

The subplatter sits lower than the main platter. I cannot drive the main platter periphery directly: the main platter rests on the subplatter with a small amount of lateral play.

Looking at Avid DIVA specs, it would appear that they are recent converts to the lower torque rated 24VAC 250rpm brigade (at least with DIVA II), with Avid opting for 12mNm running torque (echos of Nottingham Audio).

As to the possibility of putting one of these Jasmine DC motors beneath the outer platter, you'll want to compare its height (including pulley) to that of your DIVA motor. It's easy enough to increase height but not so easy to reduce it (that is, without putting platform shoes on the deck, or drilling out a hole in the shelf for the motor).

Just be prepared for a lot of platter off, tweak speed, platter on, test cycles. Also, a DC motor will end up running at much higher rpm for a given torque (and hence vibration, yes they do vibrate), in fact they need do in order to stay out of the stall zone, hence the tiny pulley that looks like it came off a '70s Japanese 4-pole synchronous motor belt-drive.
