It’s… a Music Quiz!

ELEVEN…

Hey. I have an idea. Even if I do say so myself, it is a great idea...

1. Partridge - Dukes of Stratosphear band member
2. Turtle (dove)s - 200 Motels band members
3. French (hens) - Piece on Erik Satie album
4. The Beatles by the Beatles (for 'Blackbird' by the Fab Four)
5. Rings Around the World by Super Furry Animals (for the rings, was gold by sales, some gold on the cover too)
6. Joe's Garage by Frank Zappa (for 'Packard Goose') AND Läther by Frank Zappa (for 'Duck Duck Goose')
7. Swans a-swimming - Song title from Lifes Rich Pageant
8. Led Zeppelin II ('Living Loving Maid')
9. Space Ritual by Hawkwind (cos Hawkwind had their lady dancer Stacia and she gets a credit and the cover on this). I will cover myself by adding it could be In Search of Space (cos she's on the cover too)
10. Spinal Tap (cos Nigel Tufnell is a real life Lord)
11. Pipers piping - Piper at the Gates of Dawn by Pink Floyd
12. After the Gold Rush by Neil Young ("and drummers drumming")
Still ELEVEN…

As we are now down to a guessing game, I might as well keep throwing out clues.

Looking for an album by a UK band released in the 1970s.
There’s a track on it whose title references both halves of ‘ladies dancing’ in some way.
The album has a very pretty sleeve.
It made the UK top 40.
Er, the guitarist playing on the track lives about 40 minutes drive from me. To the south-west, approximately.

See if you can get it by the time I’ve made my coffee.

OK, I think a good shot. Plus the musical style fits...

Hooray! TWELVE. Ripped version shown - 40th Anniversary Edition, if you are taking notes. Sum-up to follow when I’ve finished my coffee (yes, I do things very, very slowly.)

Hurrah, indeed. I was confident this was the pretty cover in the clue.

Great. :D And the quiz was great festive entertainment.

Glad you had fun. As I asked for your workings, it’s only fair that you see mine. Note the clear, decisive writings of a razor-sharp, tidy mind.

Note also that what turned out to be the final clue was originally going to be The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady. But as you noticed, there was an unspoken stylistic link that was intended to help a little. Obviously Satie sticks out like a sore thumb, but I was properly stuck there. Mingus can wait until next time. I think I should explore the jazz side of my collection in a quiz now, and I rather like the ‘I’ll only tell you how many are correct, not which ones’ format.

Oh yes, and a calling bird = a colly bird = specifically a blackbird!

Thanks to Marchbanks and Gaston for a fun ride full of thrills, chills, and spills.
