I'm considering buying an old-ish amp that is missing the remote control. I believe from a wee bit of reading that getting a remote that would work probably wouldn't be difficult. But the amp seller has never tried one (he says anyway....). So if the receiver was fubar is it possible to replace it?

You can buy IR receiver diodes.
What is the amp? Should be possible to find out what system the remote is based on. Then a S/H one, or even a universal remote might do the trick.

Thanks for the reply. It's a Madrigal Audio Proceed preamp. (connections with Mark Levinson) I'm swaying away a bit though. The seller replaced it with a Krell 250 pre, which doesn't seem well-regarded, so suggests the M-A isn't up to much....?
