Sad news indeed. I taught both his sons at the Perse in Cambridge and was their form tutor for several years so got to know him. He was the most personable, down to earth person. A lovely guy and will be sadly missed.

He was the last of the regular characters. the Spiv (Jimmy somebody) was one of the earlier ones to go despite being relatively young. The Vicar must be long dead now, the German officer maybe not but he only appeared once (IIRC)
Edit - James Beck, Private Walker (the spiv) died 1973 aged 44.
Frank Williams, the vicar, died 2022 aged 90. Well done Frank.
Philip Madoc, U boat captain, died 2012 aged 77.
