I Was There: A New Game

kjb

Proof reading not always a strength
Simple rules - You Tube clips of cool gigs where you were in the audience.

To start off ( and show off)

The Rainbow, Finsbury Park, must've been 78/9: I think The Passions were also on the bill.

And, as I think I may have mentioned before I was 4 rows from the front at this show

I don't mind repeating this. My dad got me tickets for my 11th birthday. he came too. He wasn't a "cool dad" - the only man there in a tie and cardigan. Love him.

Next?

I was at the premier of John Tavener's "The Protecting Veil". Don't think it made it to You Tube, though.

Cheers,

Nic.

the cure at kilburn national in 1992 (no clips of nirvana at kilburn so bob had to do!)

tickets went on sale the day after st patricks day, so we starting queing at 6pm on st pat's day, in kilburn... the police were a little uncomfortable with the queue forming and ended up getting the ticket office to open up at 2am to start selling us all tickets. Great, and small for the cure at the time, gig. Surpassed by the one at olympia where they basically just played pornography, kiss me, faith etc, but still a great night.

My first every gig - Donington 1988
There was an accident on the motorway, so we were stuck on the coach in a long queue. Got off and walked the last 3 or 4 miles as sick of waiting in the queue, so listened to Helloween on the walk, think Megadeth were on as I got into the place and I got nearer just in time to see GNR as they first burst onto the stage.

Headliners were Iron Maiden who I'd never really listened to (I was there more for Kiss) but I was stunned - went right out and bought 7th son the next weekend.

Saw GNR again at Sydney Entertainment Centre December '88 but can't find that on the tube

I spent a disgusting number of evenings of the '90s at the QE2 in Albany, and saw some of the best shows of my life there . . . though I had an working "in" that let me catch most of them from up in the loft above the sound board, looking down on the great unwashed mob.
