I am not an Audiophile (and never have been)

^ this, definitely this.

Things attract labels. Audiophile is just one such, and to be honest, it's quicker and easier to say than 'person who considers it worthwhile to spend money on better music reproduction'. It has become a pejorative term only to the extent that we allow it to be.
I agree with this

The term itself, is not the best, surely some intelligent soul could come up with something better than audiophile.

I think the term was introduced to mock & why Bloss opened the thread, to state, he is definitely not an audiophile, why else deny it unless it's derogatory.

Does anyone know who coined this little gem.
The Wikipedia description seems spot on to me, but it has become a word many don't want to be associated with.

A word, commencing with SQ........ is the best I can muster.

Until a revised title is accepted I am not an Audiophile. So there.

From what I remember the hifi mags of the seventies and eighties were very happy to describe their readership as audiophiles. The term has been subverted much more recently, IMHO.

Audiophilia is a disease of the mind that affects the few who believe music is about equipment :)

(Tongue firmly in cheek, just for clarity)

Okay, then; I like a challenge (of a linguistic nature).

Sqaudiophile....sounds a bit like a parrot lover(squawkophile?)

Tunefidiophile; Musaudiphile; Transcriptophile: Musaudiophile:Melaudiophile

I give up. It's the 'phile' bit that's screwing it for me. After all, a lover of illegitimate children is probably a bastardphile.

I think the answer is to change the dictionary definition to what we think it should mean. Bloody Hell, what a way to start the New Year !:D

I'm prepared to bet that those here happy to wear the audiophile tag actually have far larger and more specialised music collections than the inverse snobs whinging about it! We should perhaps have a 'post a pic of your music collection' contest!

I'd like to see that. I reckon mine is down in the PFM second division with about 1000 records

There won't be much to see from those relying on hard drives to store their tunes ;).

I'm waiting for someone to claim Spotify, Tidal or whatever counts (even if they only ever play the most recent Adele album!).

Can't get it all in; there's another almost identical alcove. Still only 'medium audiophile' according to Tony. :)
